Purple

6.10.2013
People who like purple LOVE purple. Have you noticed that? People have favorite colors, but purple lovers are passionate about purple. And why not? It's a symbol of royalty, has such a rich quality to it, and works well through the seasons. Paired with gold for Christmas is stunning; with ambers and reds in the fall; with aqua or yellow in spring and purple and white in summer is fresh and bright.

Since there are those who love purple, I thought it would be a good idea to get some purple linen get sewing. Here are some new additions to my shop...

Purple runners. I have two in 15"x72".

This linen has a rich feel, too. Stop in!

lemonade

4.09.2013
A couple years ago the local nursery had citrus trees on sale and, since we'd wanted one forever, my husband and I got a dwarf meyer lemon tree.

Last year we got a few lemons, and it was fun to make a batch or two of lemonade, and have a lemon handy for the occasional recipe.

But this year our tree is loaded with lemons! SO fun.

So I've done lots of lemon squeezing, and have given away bags full. And we still have lemons getting ripe. But aside from the random warm day or two, the weather was still chilly, and we weren't really craving lemonade. So here's what I've done:

Squeezed lemons...

Strained the juice and poured into little sauce cups with lids. Put them in the freezer for a few hours...

Put the pods in zippered freezer bags and returned them to the freezer.

We'll have lots of lemon juice to make fresh lemonade all summer long. Maybe we'll give some to Sophie so she can have another Lemonade Stand

february

2.01.2013
It's February 1, and that means only 13 days till Valentine's Day... one of my favorite days. I love hearts, I love red, and I love my loved-ones. (duh!) How will you celebrate?

Since my husband reads my blog on occasion, I couldn't post this too early. But starting today, I'll be counting the days with "How do I love thee? Let me count the ways" cards. My plan was to put them in his lunch each day. (Since I left my day job, I've gone pack to packing his lunches. And I actually enjoy it more than I used to.) But I don't pack lunches on the weekends, and it's more fun to get them at random times in random places.

On the DAY, I'll make a special favorite dinner and set the table with some extra love. I'll use some linen napkins, and I've got some in my shop, if you'd like to have some for your special day...

New year, new color

1.19.2013
Aside from my little-girl love of purple (why is it all --well, most--little girls love purple so much... and princesses?), my favorite color has always been blue. I walk into a fabric store or home decor store and stroll right past the yellows and oranges, and head straight for the blues, teals. What is it about blue? Is it because I grew up with a view of the Pacific Ocean? or that I love a sunny, blue-sky day?

Color is such a fun topic. And the people at Pantone make it their business. Big time. As in, they choose a color of the year every year. They watch color trends, what's happening in the world, in politics, the passions of the era, and all sorts of factors to come up with a color of the year.

2012 saw Tangerine Tango as its color. Orange has never been my favorite color (and there was a time when I just downright did not like it!), and I would never paint a wall in my home orange (never say never... you never know!), but I have found that a little burst of orange can bring unexpected life into a space. Like a bunch of orange tulips on my mantel. Actually loved it!

Pantone's color for 2013 is Emerald.

Again, I would not paint my walls emerald, but what a fun shade to add a splash of color to a room, an outfit or an event.

Some fun green finds, not all exactly emerald, but great greens to add to your home.

2. Straws - not exactly emerald, but totally fun--and green!

5. iPhone Case

I've ordered some emerald linen to add some great new napkins, runners and maybe a pillow cover to Rufflewood's spring line.

Watch for some fun new green!
